NFL is a popular sport to play especially in the DFS world. It brings out the best of the best and everyone wants to get a piece of the pie. It is a lot of money to be made and a few ways to get it. One of the newer ways that Fanduel just added to their platform is a game mode called Mini. This means exactly what it says. You will pick a mini lineup compared to what you are normally accustomed to picking. Let me explain.
Fanduel NFL Mini Review
When you are playing NFL DFS the traditional way you are picking 9 players for 9 slots on the list. That includes a kicker and a defense both of which you do not have the option to select in the mini-game mode. I know that sounds a bit crazy and may make you tilt your head and squint your eyes. But it’s not as bad as you think. In fact, it looks exactly like this.
So you will pick your QB two RBs and two WRs and that’s it. I will go into detail on what you need to look for when picking a little later.
Fanduel gives you fewer options and you still have the $60,000 player salary cap to spend. Where on DK you don’t have a salary cap for their pick-em game mode. But the players are separated in each tier by popularity and stats. So each platform has their own way of making sure that the lineups don’t get too crazy.
How You Will Need To Pick Your Players In The Mini NFL Game Mode On Fanduel
You will always want to start out with the RBs and go down from there. Pick the QB last because I want you to be focused on generating points. You want guys who are getting touches in the backfield and are getting targets week to week by their QB. This gives you the best chance to accumulate points when your contest starts.
Use the money you have left over and pick your QB then.
Things To Keep An Eye On
Research is still king and will play a vital role in this game mode as well. You will still need to check the defense you are going against particularly with the QBs, RBs and WRs. You want to see who is the ball being thrown to the most when this person faces this team. You also want to know how this person/persons perform historically against this teams defense. It isn’t set in stone. But does help you and gives you valid reasons behind each of your picks. Never pick players blindly always have a reason behind each pick and be able to explain it to another person.
This helps sharpen your craft and makes you more aware of players and whats going on in that particular sport that you are playing DFS in.
A lot of this information you can get on fanduel’s site while you are choosing your players like the following.
You can see how many targets a WR is getting week to week from their QB. This is how many times this receiver had the ball thrown to him. Rather he caught it or not. The ball was thrown and intended for him to catch. So that counts as a target.
You view this information by simply clicking on a players name and then selecting the tab that says game log.
The area that is circled first is the Targets area this is how many times this player was thrown the ball. Beside that circle is the Receptions area. This is how many times this player actually caught the ball out of the times it was thrown to him. So this information can be very helpful when you are choosing players to put in your DFS lineup. This can also be the main source to you finding those contrarian picks to separate you from the pack.
Another thing you can see is the opposing teams defensive rank. This can be vital as well. You wouldn’t stack reviewers against a defense that is known for stopping the passing game. You would instead like to target the weak defenses and teams that have been historically bad against another.
You can view a teams defensive rank by clicking the player’s name and just viewing the next game box right under the player’s picture.
Those three numbers are the defenses rank that that particular player is facing in their next game.
The rank is in order and goes by the following
Overall Rank – Passing Rank – Rushing Rank
The colors are like this
Green – Great To Target
Yellow – Ok
Red – Stay Away If Possible – Can bend the lines sometimes – Depends on who the QB/RB/WR is.
This is it all you need to know about the new game mode and how to pick players effectively for the best chance to win. Now, all there is left for you too is get on Fanduel and go win some money.
